Car Slams Into Los Angeles Airport Terminal, Girl Critically Injured
Authorities say the driver confused the gas pedal with the brake.
— -- A car slammed into the wall of a terminal at Los Angeles International Airport Sunday, striking and critically injuring a 9-year-old who was on the sidewalk, authorities said.
The driver, 67, was dropping off a passenger at Terminal 7 before 5 p.m. when, authorities said, he confused the gas pedal with the brake.
The 9-year-old was on the curb with her mother and siblings when she was hit. She was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition. The driver and passenger both sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the accident, the car ended up deep in a supply room, just above a stairwell.
Authorities shut down lanes of traffic near the terminal for hours as crews rushed to the scene. No airport operations were affected.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
