— -- People concerned about friends or family in Orlando have a few ways to check whether they are OK after this morning’s nightclub shooting, which left at least 50 dead and more than 50 others wounded.

Facebook has activated its Safety Check feature for people on the social network to find out whether friends and family members have tagged themselves as safe. It is the first time Facebook has activated this new feature in the United States.

You can find it here or on Facebook under the heading "The Shooting in Orlando, Florida."

Orlando has begun publishing the names of victims, which you can find here.

Orlando police announced on Twitter that the city has set up a hotline, asking that it be reserved for family members of those believed to be victims: 407-246-4357.

Facebook initiated Safety Check for natural disasters. In late 2015 it began using the feature for other calamities as well, such as terrorist attacks. So far this year, the social network has activated it 18 times, including today.

Unlike after some natural disasters, phone lines, cellular phone service and internet connections have not been disrupted by the tragedy in Orlando, so people have also been able to call, email and text loved ones in central Florida to check on their well-being.
