Explosion Destroys Kentucky Hotel
A driver accidentally drove into a gas meter, triggering blast.
— -- A Kentucky hotel was destroyed in an explosion Sunday, after a driver accidentally drove into a gas meter, authorities said.
Three floors of the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Lexington sustained damage, according to ABC affiliate station WTVQ. The explosion left building material strewn about the parking lot, with a front wall of the hotel gone. Firefighters remained at the scene hours after the explosion.
No one was injured.
Sean Burbridge, a Nevada resident, ignored the fire alarm, but a woman knocked on the door, urging him to evacuate.
“If it wasn’t for her, I honestly don’t know what would’ve happened,” Burbridge told WTVQ. “I don’t want to think about what would’ve happened.”
