— -- Temperatures are soaring to dangerous levels in Arizona, landing some people in the hospital.

Twenty-one people suffered heat-related illnesses at the Arizona Cardinals pre-season game Saturday night, Ron Hart of the Glendale Fire Department told ABC News today. Some were stadium employees and some were tailgaters, Hart said.

"They were treated by Glendale Fire Medics and transported, if necessary, to local hospitals for further evaluation," Hart said in a statement. Eleven people were hospitalized, according to ABC affiliate KNXV in Phoenix.

Temperatures reached 115 degrees, according to KNXV.

"None of the heat stressed individuals have life-threatening injuries at this time," Hart said in a statement.

An excessive heat warning is in effect in the Phoenix area today, where temperatures are expected to reach 114 degrees.

The mercury is expected to hit 118 degrees today in Palm Springs and Las Vegas may reach 110 degrees.

The University of Phoenix Stadium did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment.
