— -- The weapon allegedly used in the mysterious “Gone Girl” kidnapping in California was reportedly not a real gun.

The one or more individuals claiming responsibility for the incident emailed a picture of the “weapon” and described it to the San Francisco Chronicle. The correspondence was included in the FBI’s arrest warrant for the only identified suspect, though the picture itself was not.

The purported suspects described it as “an amateurishly painted water pistol with a laser pointer and flashlight duck [sic] taped on.” They go on to “it looks much more serious in the dark.”

Someone claiming to speak on behalf of the group of assailants sent a detailed manifesto to the newspaper describing the alleged incident in detail.

One person was arrested in connection with the alleged break-in and kidnapping after the FBI took over the case when the Vallejo Police Department initially wrote it off as a hoax.
