— -- Police have arrested a woman allegedly caught on surveillance video stealing a ring off a corpse in a Texas funeral home.
Kalynn Homfeld, 41, was booked and charged Tuesday afternoon, according to Odessa police.
Homfeld was identified as a suspect in the theft on Saturday after police reviewed surveillance video in which a woman can be seen standing over an open casket, apparently struggling to remove the ring from the female corpse's hand.
Officials said the suspect then fled the scene.
The ring Homfeld allegedly stole was made of plastic and worth about $10, police said.
The crime is being treated as a "state jail felony," according to a statement issued by Odessa Chief of Police Timothy Burton. The statement does not make clear whether the stolen ring has been recovered.
