Pregnant Woman Among Victims in Deadly Maryland Car Crash

Five people, including a pregnant woman, died Saturday in a Maryland car crash.

— -- Five members of a Virginia family, including a pregnant woman ands two children, were killed in a Saturday morning car crash in Maryland, police said.

According to the Maryland State Police, Regina Ayres, 24, was traveling with her boyfriend, son, daughter, and pregnant sister when their car collided with a tractor trailer around 1 a.m. in Queen Anne's County.

Ayres, along her boyfriend, 25-year-old Travis Straton, and their children, ages 2 months and 7 years old, were declared dead at the scene.

Ayres' pregnant sister, 30-year-old Zerissa Ayres, was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead. He unborn child was also declared dead, police said.

The tractor trailer overturned during the collision but the driver, Yvenet Mayette, 28, of Wilmington, Delaware, survived. He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center to be treated for injuries.

The state police says the Ayres family had been traveling from Greenbush, Virginia to Baltimore.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. Police say neither icy roads nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
