U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq -- 2006

June 9, 2006

Pvt. Benjamin J. Slaven, 22, of Plymouth, Neb., died in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

Lance Cpl. Brent B. Zoucha, 19, of Merrick, Neb., died of wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

Lance Cpl. Salvador Guerrero, 21, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lance Cpl. Brent B. Zoucha, 19, of Merrick, Neb. died of wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

Hospitalman Zachary M. Alday, 22, of Donalsonville, Ga., died from injuries sustained earlier in the day in Al Anbar, Iraq, when the vehicle in which he was riding struck a land mine.

Sgt. Jose M. Velez, 35, of Bronx, N.Y., died in Kirkuk, Iraq, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

Cpl. Luis D. Santos, 20, of Rialto, Calif., died in Buritz, Iraq of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

Sgt. 1st Class Clarence D. McSwain, 31, of Meridian, Miss., died in Baghdad, Iraq of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle during combat operations.

Sgt. 1st Class Daniel B. Crabtree, 31, of Canton, Ohio, died in Al Kut, Iraq, on June 8, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

2nd Lt. John S. Vaughan, 23, of Edwards, Colo., died in Mosul, Iraq, when he encountered enemy small arms fire during dismounted combat operations.

1st Lt. Scott M. Love, 32, of Knoxville, Tenn. and Pfc. David N. Crombie, 19, of Winnemucca, Nev. died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during combat operations.

Sgt. Carlos E. Pernell, 25, of Munford, Ala. and Cpl. Andy D. Anderson, 24, of Falls Church, Va. died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when their camp received indirect enemy fire during combat operations.

June 5, 2006

Petty Officer 2nd Class Jaime S. Jaenke, 29, of Bay City, Wis., died as a result of enemy action when her vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

Sgt. 1st Class. Issac S. Lawson, 35, of Sacramento, Calif., died in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

Petty Officer 1st Class Gary T. Rovinski, 44, of Roseville, Ill., died in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, as a result of enemy action when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.

1st Lt. Ryan T. Sanders, 27, of College Station, Texas and Sgt. Daniel R. Gionet, 23, of Pelham, N.H. died in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their M1A2 tank during combat operations.

June 3, 2006

Maj. Michael D. Stover, 43, of Mansfield, Ohio, died from a non-hostile incident in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

Staff Sgt. Darren Harmon,44, of Newark Del., died in Haditha, Iraq, from a non-combat related cause.

Cpl. Ryan J. Cummings, 22, of Streamwood, Ill., died from wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.
