U.S. Military Deaths in War With Iraq -- 2003

Sgt. 1st Class William M. Bennett, 35, of Seymour, Tenn., was killed in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. He died of wounds he received when his unit executed a raid on enemy forces.

September 11, 2003

Sgt. Henry Ybarra III, 32, of Austin, Texas, died on Sept. 11 in Balad, Iraq. Ybarra was changing the tire on a Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck when the tire exploded. Ybarra died of his injuries.

September 10, 2003

Staff Sgt. Joseph E. Robsky Jr., 31, of Elizaville, N.Y., was killed on Sept. 10 in Baghdad, Iraq. Robsky was on call to neutralize an improvised explosive device (IED) after the initial attempt failed. Robsky returned to the site to render it safe, and the IED detonated.

September 9, 2003

Spc. Ryan G. Carlock, 25, of Macomb, Ill., was killed on Sept. 9 northwest of Baghdad, Iraq. Carlock died of injuries sustained when his fuel truck was attacked by the enemy.

September 7, 2003

Spc. Jarrett B. Thompson, 27, of Dover, Del., died on Sept. 7 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Thompson was in a convoy on Aug. 30 when a civilian vehicle passed the convoy and cut in front of the lead military vehicle and an approaching Iraqi truck. The driver of the civilian vehicle hit Thompson's truck. Thompson was medically evacuated to WRAMC where he later died of his injuries.

September 4, 2003

Tech. Sgt. Bruce E. Brown, 32, of Coatopa, Ala., was killed in a motor vehicle accident near Al Udeid, Qatar.

September 2, 2003

Pfc. Christopher A. Sisson, 20, of Oak Park, Ill., died in Baghdad, Iraq. He was in a UH-60 helicopter participating in an air assault mission. The helicopter flipped and crashed on takeoff. He died of injuries sustained in the incident.

September 1, 2003

Staff Sgt. Joseph Camara, 40, of New Bedford, Mass., was killed on Main Supply Route Tampa, south of Baghdad, Iraq. Camara was in a vehicle struck by an improvised explosive device and died of his injuries.

Sgt. Charles T. Caldwell, 38, of North Providence, R.I., was killed on Main Supply Route Tampa, south of Baghdad, Iraq. Caldwell was in a vehicle struck by an improvised explosive device and died of his injuries.

Staff Sgt. Cameron B. Sarno, 43, of Waipahu, Hawaii, died in Kuwait City, Kuwait, after being hit by a truck while changing his vehicle's tire. He died as a result of his injuries.

August 31, 2003

Spc. Chad C. Fuller, 24, of Potsdam, N.Y. was killed while on patrol when his squad was attacked. He died of injuries sustained during the attack. The incident is under investigation.

Pfc. Adam L. Thomas, 21, of Palos Hills, Ill. was killed while on patrol when his squad was attacked. He died of injuries sustained during the attack. The incident is under investigation.

August 30, 2003

Sgt. Sean K. Cataudella, 28, of Tucson, Ariz., died in Ba'qubah, Iraq after the military vehicle he was driving hit an embankment and rolled into a canal.

August 29, 2003

Staff Sgt. Mark A. Lawton, 41, of Hayden, Colo., was killed north of As Suaydat, Iraq. Lawton was in a convoy that was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.

August 27, 2003

Spc. Rafael L. Navea, 34, of Pittsburgh, Pa., was killed in Fallujah, Iraq. Navea was in a vehicle that struck an improvised explosive device. Navea died of his injuries.

Sgt. Gregory A. Belanger, 24, of Narragansett, R.I., was killed in Al Hallia, Iraq. Belanger was in a vehicle that struck an improvised explosive device. Belanger died of his injuries.
