March 10 -- With a lone voice singing a hymn, hundreds of mourners gathered today at Pathways Community Church in Santee, Calif., to remember 17-year-old Randy Gordon, who was shot in the back and killed during a mass shooting at Santana High School.

"He never tried to like mess with anybody," said one of Gordon's best friends, Brad McGuiness. "He always tried to be a friend to everybody, no matter who you were."

A large picture of Gordon stood near the church pulpit, surrounded by flowers.

Pastor Phil Harrington, who conducted the service, memorialized the teen as bright and ambitious.

Dreams of Joining the Navy

"Randy had signed with the U.S. Navy with a desire to serve in intelligence and dreamed of being an FBI agent," he said. "He devoured books on the Navy and Tom Clancy novels."

Officials on the USS Arizona memorial, in Hawaii, planned to raise and lower a flag today, to honor his intent to join the Navy.

Gordon was one of two Santana High students killed Monday morning in a rampage that left 13 others wounded.

Gordon was shot in the back in a school corridor and dragged himself around a corner. He later was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Services will be held Sunday for 14-year-old Brian Zuckor, who died when he was shot in head during the attack.

Prosecutors plan to charge 15-year-old Charles "Andy" Williams as adult under California?s Proposition 21, which enables juveniles to be tried as adults for violent crimes.

At the service today, Harrington urged the community to come together become stronger, rather than harbor resentment.

"We don't have to let this act of violence define our community, and define us," he urged.

Gordon was very popular at school, said Chante' Thrasher, another close friend.

"Randy was really good," she said. "He always gave. He never took from anybody. He was a nice person. And all of us are going to miss him very much."

Suspect's Family Apologizes

In a statement released through the San Diego County Public Defender's Office, the family of the 15-year-old who may be charged as an adult in Monday's shooting spree expressed their regret for the attack.
