March 11, 2010— -- One of the biggest victims in the global recession has been America's middle class. With many living paycheck to paycheck, unable to save for the future, and feeling a disconnect to the economic recovery, the American middle class is fighting for its survival.

Beginning Monday, Diane Sawyer reports "The Comeback: Saving America's Middle Class."

Tune in Monday to learn the results of an exclusive ABC News national poll examining Americans who call themselves middle class. Our results found that Americans making between $35,000 and $100,000 are now considered middle class. But, how many are struggling to stay there and what does the public see as the essential elements of a middle-class life?

Sawyer will engage a panel of experts in a wide-ranging discussion about solutions -- what responsibilities major financial institutions have to American families and what needs to be done to foster the resurgence of a sustainable middle class. Sawyer will also investigate the secret shame felt by Americans who have found themselves as victims of the global recession.
