Nov. 1, 2005 — -- ABC News President David Westin today announced that "Primetime" anchor Christopher Cuomo has been named senior legal correspondent for ABC News. Cuomo, an Emmy-winning journalist and lawyer by training, will report on law and justice issues and high-profile trials for all ABC platforms, including "Good Morning America" and "World News Tonight."

"Chris Cuomo is a strong and versatile journalist whose reporting distinguishes ABC News each and every time he appears as an anchor and as a correspondent," said Westin. "The law and justice beat requires an agile mind and a competitive drive -- both of which Chris has in abundance."

Cuomo, who was the only television finalist for the Livingston Outstanding Journalist award, will continue to co-anchor "Primetime" in addition to his new expanded responsibilities on the law and justice beat. On "Primetime," Cuomo has done award-winning investigative stories on crime and corruption, in addition to pieces on the juvenile justice system, including hour-long reports on youth detention centers and a wilderness drug diversion program.

Much of Cuomo's previous reporting for ABC News has been on law and justice issues. Recently, Cuomo provided ongoing coverage of the Martha Stewart trial for all ABC News platforms, and has reported on high-profile cases, such as Kobe Bryant's and the Laci Peterson murder investigation. He also covered the legal implications of forced evacuations during hurricanes, as well as some of the earliest looks at the impact on the poor.

His recent investigations include a report on abuses by charitable hospitals, which earned him an Emmy nomination. Cuomo won the prestigious Loeb Award for business reporting -- a first for a newsmagazine -- for a story on illegal small business insurance practices. Other recent reports include unjust practices by drug companies and an examination of laws restricting mental health coverage for children.

A fixture on ABC News Now as the host of "Politics Live," Cuomo has reported on and provided analysis of all the recent Supreme Court nominees as well as the ongoing CIA leak investigation.

A New York native, Cuomo is a licensed attorney who received his law degree from the Fordham University School of Law in New York City and his undergraduate degree from Yale University.
