With so many eyes on team usa, so many eyes on a determined boy. We teamed up with ESPN special edition of person of the week. Changed his balance. Super save! He is the American goalkeeper. Who stuns over and over again. Howard kicks it out somehow, how did he do that? Reporter: How did he do that? It's a question his own family has been asking since he was a boy. Tim Howard was diagnosed with tourette's syndrome at 10 years old when he mother noticed those ticks. She knew her son was struggling. I would blink and cough and turn my neck. It could have been anything at that point, you know. So that was tough. I was concerned that people who met him would not be able to see past the ticks and twitches to the person that Tim was. I remember being so exhausted at the end of the day. I could remember trying to suppress it or get home to my room to have an outburst. Reporter: But the boy could tell he was good at something. He started playing soccer at 6. I began playing soccer and answering it just that way. Yes, I had tourette's syndrome. At the time it was a little bit of a drawback, but I had this wonderful gift that was soccer. Reporter: That soccer became his refuge. Raced by a single mom is convinced that's where he got his work ethic on the field. He was play for Manchester united. The british papers were not kind. Disabled goalie lined up to play at Manchester united. Tim always said don't read the newspapers and I would still read them and get so upset. Reporter: That's his wife. Laura. They have a son and daughter. All of them now rooting on team usa and mom cheering him on as a boy still cheering him on now. My mom watches me play. She still gets really nervous which is funny. She understands the game more now. She's a kind of analyst and she'll tell me what she felt about the game afterwards. Right or wrong. Reporter: After all he's been through, just listen. I always make sure that is the first thing people see when they meet me because at the end of the day we're all human. In tough times, that hard work and humility has gotten me through. So we choose Tim Howard
