And now, to that tragedy on a Florida beach. A plane crash-lands, killing a young father on the shore. The pilot survives. Tonight, new details about him and an answer to the question, how did the family on the ground not hear something barrelling towards them? ABC's Matt Gutman talked to eye witnesses. Reporter: Tonight the frantic moments after this plane crashed into a family on a Florida beach. It's my friend's husband. His daughter was hurt and he was hurt. Reporter: The single engine plane slamming into ommy eirizarry and his 9-year-old daughter, oceana. Reporter: Police rushing to the scene. There was blood on his face. Reporter: Ommy Irizarry died minutes later. Oceana, in critical condition tonight. We learn the pilot, this man, was the head of a surveying company. He'd taken off just 9 miles away. He reported mechanical failure before swooping down onto the beach. Eyewitnesses on that beach say that with the surf and the wind, and the fact that the plane engine may have cut out, Irizarry didn't see that plane coming. He probably didn't hear it, either. Experts say, by that time, the pilot had little control over the plane. You're not necessarily going to see somebody walking down a beach until the very last second and the ability to pull up is just not there. Reporter: Unlike the irizarries, cocoa moor and his passenger walked away unhurt. Matt Gutman, ABC news, Miami.
