-- -- -- out of that dramatic rescue a six year old boy pulled from a hole in the sand eleven feet deep his parents using their hands at first. Until rescuers could get their ABC's Bob Nelson on the moment he was pulled out and how he's doing now. To nine a six year old boy is in critical condition. After a family trip to an Indiana park nearly left him -- buried under a crashing Melton of sand. We honestly don't know exactly what happened this is unprecedented. We've never had anything like this. With his parents nearby the unidentified boy was playing Friday near a restricted area of the -- ball -- sand -- in the Indiana dunes national lakeshore park suddenly the little -- let out a cry as he was swallowed by the sand. His parents scrambled to rescue him. They didn't actually see. The initial collapse. But when they got to him they could actually see him for little bit. Tried to dig him out and that's when total collapse as they described it happened. The park's tallest do -- standing at a 124 feet the size of a twelve story building came crashing down. Dozens of paramedics police and firefighters. Quickly arrived at the scene rescuers used a probe to find an air pocket around an old tree where the boy was -- that pocket giving the boy just enough air. In a race against time. The use heavy machinery and shovels to reach the boy under at least eleven feet of sand three and a half hours later they pulled him -- Bleeding but still -- the boy was rushed to a local hospital and then -- to the university of Chicago Children's Hospital. Condition at this point is unknown. And we're we're just waiting in the holding our breath. Now we got late word today from a hospital that that little boy remains in critical condition but is responding well David -- Breathing treatments for saying that he actually ingested there.
