What to Wear This Halloween
The real scary part about Halloween can be picking the right costume.
— -- The real scary part about Halloween can be picking the right costume. And that’s where we come in. Yeah, you can dress up as a witch or a pirate. But come on, it’s Halloween! Go big or go home! We’ve done all the work and now we’ve got some great ideas for you.
Our quest for the ultimate Halloween costumes led us to the Abracadabra shop located in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. We dug through their massive supply of costume options, from monsters and aliens to hippies and queens. Some costumes in the shop were available for purchase, others for rent. We tried them out for comfort, quality, buzz-ability and affordability and then rated them on a scale of "1 to 5 pumpkins." Of course, only the best of the best of them would receive 5 pumpkins.
Abracadabra’s chief marketing ghoul, Naika Cadet, told ABC News it’s all about making the most of what you’ve got. Take Disney’s Princess Belle as an example. Disney is the parent company of ABC.
“Belle’s gorgeous by herself, but you want to be a bit more creative,” Cadet told Sara Haines and William Ganss. “You’ll do a great wig with great flowers in your hair. And you can do so many other things like have a teapot or kettle in your hand. You can kind of play around and act the character.”
Of course there are crowd favorites. This year Donald Trump and Caitlyn Jenner are expected to top the list of the hottest costumes. But Cadet says, the most popular costumes are not necessarily the best choices.
"They're all boring to me," she said. "But if you take those costumes, you should morph them into something else...don't be in the cookie cutter costume."
Abracadabra is open year-round.
