Jerry Varnell, 23, allegedly attempted to detonate what he thought was an explosive-filled van outside a bank in a plot inspired by Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, according to the FBI.
The suspect is known for making anti-government statements and admiring Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.
After 11 hours of deliberation, a jury unanimously sentences Timothy McVeigh to death.
McVeigh is convicted of murder and conspiracy for his role in the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.
