Gimenez defended herself saying that she never hid her plans from the church's priest, and that she wanted to restore the painting because it's one of her favorites. Still, local criticism was so strong that some took to Facebook to show support for Gimenez's effort. She went on to write a letter to her almost 100,000 Facebook fans thanking them for the support through "one of the worst moments of my life." The rest of the Internet loved her, too.
