6 Things That Will Make You Glad 2012 Is Almost Over
Why these should end when 2012 does.
Dec. 28, 2012— -- intro:For a lot of reasons, 2012 was a strange one. The world didn't end, but we had a zombie-like moment or two. Prince Harry took the royal jewels to Vegas and showed them off in pictures, and Honey Boo Boo got air time for using spaghetti as dental floss. This is why we think you'll agree the following will make anyone happy 2012 is almost over, and a new year is around the corner.
quicklist: 1title: ERMAHGERDtext: If you don't know what this means you need to learn it by December 31 and then forget it ever existed. "Ermahgerd" stands for "Oh my God." It sounds funny because it's said by a girl with an orthodontic retainer. This is actually a meme that spread like wildfire on Reddit, where users submitted captions for the image. It's also spawned a kind of language. You can use the Ermahgerd translator to figure out your favorite phrases. But don't like it too much. We're sure come 2013 some Latin translations by magpies will be all the rage.media: 17967593
quicklist: 2title: Botched Jesus Painting text: Cecilia Gimenez was convinced she was doing some good for her church when she decided to restore an "ecce homo" fresco of Jesus. Although the first reaction is to giggle at the monkey-like appearance Gimenez gave Jesus, the Borja authorities were not so impressed.
Gimenez defended herself saying that she never hid her plans from the church's priest, and that she wanted to restore the painting because it's one of her favorites. Still, local criticism was so strong that some took to Facebook to show support for Gimenez's effort. She went on to write a letter to her almost 100,000 Facebook fans thanking them for the support through "one of the worst moments of my life." The rest of the Internet loved her, too. As did whoever bought a painting from her on eBay.
That said, it sounds like the lady wants some privacy. So Internet, let her go. We're heading into 2013. Someone else is sure to make an equally comical attempt.

quicklist: 3title: Call Me Maybetext: Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen skyrocketed to fame with the pop hit "Call Me Maybe" after fellow Canadian artist Justin Bieber shared a video of him and Selena Gomez dancing and signing to the tune. The catchy song was such a hit that there are now infinite covers of it on YouTube. One even includes the U.S. Olympic swimming team.
Here's our advice: Let's start 2013 with a different song stuck in our heads… Maybe?media: 17967876
quicklist: 4title: Fifty Shades of Greytext: An erotic novel -- dubbed "mommy porn" by many -- set the record as the fastest-selling paperback book ever. Although the content is pretty kinky, people were caught reading the book everywhere: public transportation, airports, waiting rooms, etc.
Of course the great success of this series gave place to parody. That's how we ended up with every possible pun and even cookbooks like "Fifty Shades of Chicken," which is dedicated to preparing chicken in all sorts of ways. And that, ladies and gentlmen, is how we know it has run its course.

quicklist: 5title: Satellite Image of Sandy Compared to Irene text: As the Northeast prepared for an epic storm called Sandy, several images went viral. One of the most shocking is this satellite comparison between Hurricane Irene and Sandy. If you weren't freaking out about this "Monster Storm" before, once you saw the magnitude of it, well, it was hard not to.
Unfortunately, some areas were badly hit by the storm and are still working to get things back to normal. Hopefully 2013 will be a calmer year when it comes to weather.

quicklist: 6 title: Honey Boo Boo text: For pageant contestant and reality show star Honey Boo Boo, 2012 was an amazing year. The 7-year-old Alana Thompson first became famous thanks to the TLC show "Toddlers & Tiaras," where she explained to the camera that she was in it for the money, saying, "a dollar makes me holler." Between quips like that and calling herself Honey Boo Boo, let's just say the Internet couldn't help but watch. Producers then created "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," a reality show dedicated exclusively to the Thompson family. What did that lead to? A whole lot of scary. In 2013, maybe just try being a kid, Alana. media: 17967937
