Aug. 13 -- The biggest surprise at Fox's Teen Choice Awards turned out to be an appearance by actor Ben Affleck.

He recently checked into a California rehab for treatment of alcohol abuse and was not planning on attending the award's show where teens pick the winners.

During the Fox taping he was named best actor in a movie for Pearl Harbor. He said he decided to attend because of who gives out the awards.

"So I came because this actually means a lot to me 'cause it's voted on by you guys," Affleck told the teen audience. "It's really, actually very, very good to be here."

Winners are given surfboards in categories ranging from film, TV and sports to favorite male and female hottie. Jennifer Lopez and 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake were named in that category.

The ceremony will be broadcast on Fox TV Aug. 20.

Drew Carey Released From Hospital

Portly comic Drew Carey spent part of the weekend at St. Joseph Medical Center inBurbank, Calif. after complaining of chest pains.

He began experiencing discomfort Thursday and underwent a procedure to unblock a coronary artery. According to The Associated Press, he had a stent installed to keep the artery open in a similar procedure to the one experienced by Vice President Dick Cheney.

Carey was released Saturday and his publicist says he's doing "great."

He's expected to return to work next week on ABC's sitcom The Drew Carey Show and the game show Whose Line Is It Anyway.
