Matthew McConaughey helps prepare over 800 hot meals for first responders battling California wildfires
The actor worked with a disaster response nonprofit organization to help out.
First responders have made progress in fighting the fires that raged through Southern California recently, as all evacuation orders were lifted on Sunday and 70% of the wildfires have reportedly been contained.
Thousands are still pitching in to help, including Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey, along with so many others.
On Friday, the actor worked with Operation BBQ Relief, a disaster response nonprofit organization, to provide over 800 hot meals to first responders at 20 different fire stations in Los Angeles.
"Our initial reason for coming here was going to be to say thank you to the first responders that stopped the Woolsey Fire last year. But... another fire, quite a few, have come," McConaughey told ABC Los Angeles station KABC.
"We're giving them meals they can eat right now, also meals they can put in the freezer and eat as they come back home in the days to come," McConaughey explained in a video posted by Operation BBQ Relief.
The relief effort was in coordination with Wild Turkey, a bourbon company where McConaughey serves as the creative director.
The liquor company announced a $50,000 donation to Operation BBQ Relief.
Professional wrestler and actor John Cena also made a $500,000 donation to the California Fire Fund and the Los Angeles Fire Foundation to help first responders battling wildfires in California.
