Tim McGraw talks dream collaborators and if his entire family would ever record an album together
"First on the list would be Bruce Springsteen," McGraw said.
Country music icon Tim McGraw has collaborated with many legendary artists throughout his career, but he says he still has a lengthy list of singers he'd love to work with.
While performing at the 2023 "GMA" Summer Concert Series, McGraw played Ask Me Anything backstage and answered fans questions on dream collaborators, his 16th studio album "Standing Room Only," his musical family and more.
Asked if he'd ever want to re-record any of his past songs as a duet with another artist, the country artist shared, "I would love to go back and re-record all of my songs through the '90s and early 2000s when I was on Curb Records. I would love to go back and re-record those songs and do them as duets with different artists."
Speaking on the "long list of artists" whom he says he admires and with whom he would love to sing, McGraw shared, "First on the list would be Bruce Springsteen. I mean, he's one of my all-time favorites, not only as an artist but as a human being. He's fantastic."
The singer also named George Strait, his wife Faith Hill -- with whom he has previously collaborated -- Adele and Chris Stapleton as a few others he'd love to work with. Of Stapleton, McGraw shared, "I mean, he's probably one of the most prolific songwriter singers out there -- a huge fan of his. I don't think you can get much better than Chris Stapleton."
McGraw was also asked if he could ever envision his daughters -- Gracie, 26, Maggie, 25, and Audrey, 21 -- recording a full album or even teaming up with him and Hill to record an album.
"Personally, I would love to do a family record together," he answered. "I don't know that our daughters would go for it. But I could see a couple of the girls eventually doing an album. I think they're all talented enough to do one. They're all great singers. But I could see them doing it somewhere along the line."
He added, "I always tell everyone that I am the worst singer in the family and when you put all four of them together and listen to them sing, I am absolutely the worst singer in the family. And I will carry that banner proudly."
While answering another fan question, McGraw shared more on his collaboration with Hill and what kind of input they give each other on their work.
"I always run all my music by Faith," he said. "We don't always agree, we're different artists ... when she's recording, she does the same thing -- she runs things by me. Some things I like, some things I don't. The same same with my music ... but we've learned to respect each other for our process and our artistry and learned to trust one another for what they do."
McGraw's "Standing Room Only," an album he's been working on for three years, is out Friday.
"Our last album, 'Here on Earth,' came out right smack dab in the middle of COVID, so we didn't get a chance to go out and play it live. So, I started working on this album right away," he said.
"Because of all that we all went through during that period of time and then coming out of it, I really wanted some life-affirming songs," he continued. "Songs that were positive and had a message about life and being a better person."
McGraw is set to embark on his 2024 Standing Room Only Tour to support this album next year. The tour kicks off March 14 in Jacksonville, Florida, and will wrap in Phoenix, Arizona, on June 27. Carly Pearce will join him as the opening act.
