Wedding goals: This Waffle House confection takes the cake at newlywed's nuptials
Waffle House saw the cake and gave the couple a sweet surprise.
One couple's marriage is off to a sweet start after their Waffle House-inspired wedding cake captured hearts around the country.
Hayes and Elizabeth Rivault told "Good Morning America" the cake was the perfect way to honor their longtime love of the 24-7 eatery.
"We've spent a lot of quality time there and all of our friends and family know it's our place to go, so we thought the cake would be kind of a funny touch to a pretty formal wedding that we had," Hayes said.
"I've always been a big Waffle House fan and about six years ago when we started dating, I took Elizabeth there and she loved it. Ever since then we've been going back pretty regularly," he added.
The Louisiana couple, who are currently enjoying their honeymoon, said they had no idea their wedding day confection would garner so much attention.
"We didn't know it was going to be such a hit," Rivault said. "Someone showed us a pic of a Waffle House cake very similar to the one we had and that’s where the idea came from."
The couple had their custom confection made at The Royal Cakery bakeshop in New Orleans, Louisiana.
After Waffle House shared Rivault's photo alongside the cake, she tweeted, "Sorry my future children, y’all have a lot to live up to as my greatest accomplishment in life."
Even the restaurant's CEO Walt Ehmer chimed in: "We say congratulations to the happy couple and our wish is that they have many years smothered and covered in love."
The restaurant chain later donated $1,000 worth of waffles to the happy couple.
Waffle House first opened its doors in Norcross, Georgia, in 1955 and currently has more than 1,500 restaurants across the South.
