Designer Rachel Roy Reveals Fast Fashion Fixes to 'Design Your Life'
Rachel Roy discusses style tips from her new book, "Design Your Life."
— -- “Good Morning America” is kicking off its "Fast Fashion Fixes" series with top designer Rachel Roy. She has dressed everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Michelle Obama and Kim Kardashian, and now she’s upgrading your wardrobe with her new book, “Design Your Life,” which is available Tuesday.
Here are a few of Roy’s tips on how to empower your wardrobe:
Step It Up: Layer Your Looks to Make Them Last All Year
For a contemporary ensemble, layer a strapless dress with a tight-fitting turtle neck underneath, which creates a sophisticated and elegant look with a twist. This can allow you to wear an item in the summer through the fall and winter. Dressing with elegance doesn’t mean dressing in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable. If a more traditional ensemble isn’t your thing, there’s no reason you have to compromise your comfort for the sake of convention. Pair the outfit with lace-up flats.
Step It Up: A Jumpsuit Elongates Every Body
A jumpsuit elongates every body and flatters many different shapes, Roy explained. For more casual moments, wear a loose-fitting jumpsuit cinched at the waist with a vintage belt. For more formal occasions, a long-sleeved, strong-shoulder jumpsuit can lend just the right amount of sophisticated style.
Step It Up: Pair With a Blazer for a Business Look
Throw on a men’s blazer over the shoulders and pair with a statement shoe for the evening.
Casual Chic on the Go: Simple Swaps to Pump Up Your Weekend Wardrobe
A midi-dress that hits between the knee and ankle paired with tight leather leggings is one of Roy’s favorite signature outfits when she wants to look polished on the weekend. You can team the outfit with elevated sneakers or a cute oxford lace-up. It’s also a good go-to look for traveling. You can go hands-free by wearing a backpack instead of a tote, and pair with a leather jacket instead of a hoodie.
