Aerial Photographer Turns Landscapes Into Art

Flying and art are the two passions photographer, <a href="http://www.jeffreymilstein.com/ "target="external">Jeffrey Milstein</a>, possess. His book, 'LA NY: Aerial Photographs of Los Angeles and New York' is an impressive visual tale of two cities, Los Angeles and New York. The images offer stunning views from above giving a new perspective on the city.

After getting his pilot’s license on his seventeenth birthday, he took to the air making 8mm movies. He says, "The feeling of being above everything, being able to travel in any direction, and seeing how everything looked from above was endlessly fascination."

Jeffrey Milstein uses high-resolution camera equipment and a helicopter to create photos of man-made landscapes over industrial, residential, urban and waterfront areas of the United States.

"For this project I spent many hours flying around L.A. in a helicopter with the door off shooting with very high resolution equipment so I can blow the prints up to 70 inches for my galleries," Milstein said.

Milstein took about 5 years to complete these images, "It can be challenging: sometimes the wind causes my eyes to tear, making it hard to see; there are increased vibrations and added G’s from the steep turns. Getting the pilot to the right spot while timing the shutter perfectly often requires many circles, sometimes with only minutes available for the best light."
