Chicago Cubs Welcomed Home at Wrigley Field as World Series Champions
A sea of ecstatic fans lined the streets and surrounded the stadium.
— -- The Chicago Cubs have arrived home this morning as world champions for the first time in over a century.
The baseball team pulled into Wrigley Field just after 6 a.m. local time, where the iconic stadium marquee was lit up with the words “World Series Champions” for the first time in its history. A sea of ecstatic fans lined the street and surrounded the stadium to welcome them home.
The Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians 8-7 to win the 2016 World Series Wednesday night at Cleveland’s Progressive Field, ending the team’s 108-year drought. The team last won the World Series in 1908.
In addition to halting the longest title drought in baseball, the Cubs became the first club to overcome a 3-1 Series deficit since the 1985 Kansas City Royals.
