As firefighters battle deadly wildfires raging across swathes of Greece, authorities warned that "arsonist scum" are trying to ignite new blazes.

Greece remained on "high alert" for wildfires on Wednesday, when high temperatures were again expected, the Greek Fire Service said.

Firefighters were still struggling to extinguish the blazes on Evia island, one of the hardest-hit areas in Greece, which has been seeing wildfires for nearly 2 weeks.

The 4-year-old dog became famous across Greece as “The Oven Dog” after he was found hiding in an outside oven of a house devastated by the deadly flames.

The death toll from wildfires that swept through a seaside area of Greece last week rose to 91 on Sunday.

Greek authorities have found "serious indications" fires were deliberately set.

Multiple fires in different areas outside of Athens seemed to ignite at once.

Wildfires near Athens have killed at least 74 people.
