Immigration Advocates Turn up the Heat
Immigration advocates turn up the heat on House Republicans.
Aug. 17, 2013— -- The fate of immigration reform in Congress is still up in the air. But there’s no question that advocates have grabbed the attention of lawmakers this August.
Pro-reform activists have organized rallies across the country designed to convince Republicans to back a proposal that legalizes undocumented immigrants. Their largest effort yet came this week, when over 1,000 people rallied in Bakersfield, Calif. to put pressure on Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the third-ranking House Republican.
McCarthy said he’s open to changing the nation’s immigration laws, but he hasn't voiced support for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
Check out the video above to see what message advocates sent McCarthy and other lawmakers around the country.
