Jessica Biel wore this red Versace high-low gown that folds and ruffles in all the right ways at the 2009 Met Gala. The long train is like a river of.. hmm.. something red that's not tragic, like melted red Popsicle, only glamorous and beautiful. Point is it was hard to look away as she walked up the staircase.

Gisele Bundchen also wore red at the 2011 event. She rocked an Alexander McQueen gown to the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" themed Gala. Celebrities should receive prizes for wearing red on a red carpet. Sometimes it looks like they're wearing the carpet, and sometimes it looks like this.

Actress Camilla Belle wore this chiffon Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture gown to the 2007 Met Ball. Belle is always dressed spectacularly at the Ball. Google her 2010 and 2012 gowns, the latter being one of my favorites that just didn't make the list.

Oh Anne Hathaway. She looks incredible in this gold glittered Valentino gown at the 2010 Ball. The dress originally had straps, but this bold low-V cut was a great decision.

Kate Bosworth at the 2012 Met Ball in a Prada feathered mini dress. Like Blake Lively's blue Marchesa mini dress (see later slides), I had to think about this one. I have a thing against mini dresses at the Gala. But Bosworth's diamond-encrusted ear cuff, tight (and tiny) braided bun, and burgundy lipstick dress this mini up and she looks stunning.

Doutzen Kroes at the 2010 Gala themed "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity". This, like Gisele's Versace number, is one for the books. This powder blue Zac Posen chiffon gown is exactly what the Met Gala is all about -- feeling like Cinderella. How do you put that on and NOT feel like royalty?

Super model Gisele Bundchen is on this list a few times. Here at the 2008 Gala she wears this famous Versace gown without slipping out of any of the many openings the entire night. You put that dress on the girl sitting next to you and she looks like she belongs on the streets. Somehow Gisele looks elegant. This picture should be in every Hollywood fashion coffee table book.

Actress Kate Bosworth at the 2007 Ball wearing Prada. She looks like she's in a 1920's costume, but it is the Costume Institute Benefit Gala after all. Bosworth always rocks a dark lip at the Gala. Will she repeat this year?

Jessica Biel in 2010 at the Gala. The messy hair and drooping neckline make her look like she just rolled out of bed in a Ralph Lauren Collection cream silk gown and half undone bun -- which is probably how she looks every morning anyway.

I hated this when I first saw this at the 2010 Gala. "How could she wear a mini dress to the Met Ball?!" Then I took a deep breath, walked away from my computer, and came back 15 minutes later. How can you hate that ocean blue Marchesa dress? The only thing I hate is how toned and tan Blake Lively looks in it.

Like the yellow dress, the sparkly tight fitted dress is a difficult one to look sexy in. Of course supermodel Naomi Campbell rocks it with a IDGAF attitude at the 1995 Met Gala.

Don't knock it until you... look at it a little longer. Actress Diane Kruger is wearing a Prada silk chiffon dress with a hand-finished ostrich feather border at the "Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations" Gala in 2012. The incredible color, the sexy "whatever I'm not wearing a bra" neckline, the feather train. I'd feel hot as Hell in that.

Actress Rosario Dawson at the 2007 Ball themed "Poiret: King Of Fashion". Sometimes this design can be boring, and sometimes this color can make you look like a Barbie, but Rosario pops in this strapless fuschia number.

Model Elle Macpherson attends the Met Gala Celebrating Chanel in 2005. Like Emma Roberts and ScarJo, Elle is glowing in this yellow gown. There's a few more yellow gowns in this slideshow because the Met Gala is really one of the few places this color has worked out for celebrities.

Margherita Missoni at the 2006 Met Ball. Margherita is a seriously under-looked fashion icon. Yes, she mostly wears her grandparents' line, but she makes those dizzying zig-zags look super hot. Seriously, Google her.

Actress Scarlett Johansson attends the "Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century" Met Gala in 2004. Some people can pull of yellow while others look deathly ill in yellow. Scarlett is one of the former.
