Feb. 25, 2010 — -- The economy is supposed to be in the throes of recovery, but that hasn't saved some popular brands from biting the dust. General Motors said this week it would begin to wind down its Hummer business after the company failed to complete a deal with a Chinese company that had planned to buy the division.
Hummer is one of several brands GM has scuttled as the embattled auto company works to restructure itself into a leaner, more profitable firm and pay back the billions of dollars it received in government aid. GM last year bid goodbye to its Saturn and Pontiac brands.
