Mellody's Math: Investing with Courage

One of the worst performing industries thus far in 2002 is wireless telecommunication services. Within this struggling industry, one company worth considering is residential and commercial cellular provider U.S. Cellular — a qualified and proven service provider.

Likewise, in telecommunications equipment, a related and equally battered industry, a company such as Andrew Corp., a global designer, manufacturer, and supplier of communications equipment, services and systems, is a potentially rewarding investment.

And finally, electronic equipment and instruments goes on my roster as another one of the worst performing industries this year.

A major player in this pained industry is Anixter International, the world's leading distributor of data communication products and electrical wire and cable. Anixter is likely to experience solid growth when this industry turns around — which, given time, could ultimately happen.
