Amy Poehler and Tina Fey On What to Expect At the Golden Globes
The comedy duo will 'just pay people all night to laugh,' Poehler joked.
Jan. 11, 2014 -- Yes, everyone is excited to see who among all these nominees will take home a Golden Globe on Sunday night. But another reason to tune in to the awards show is to watch hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey entertain the crowd for the second year running.
And unlike other performances, the two promised that they won't make mean jabs at their fellow celebrities for laughs.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Back as Golden Globe Hosts
"We're not mean. That's not really our thing," Poehler said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. "When you host a show you have to hopefully be funny at the top and set the tone for a really fun evening. When we did do it, it felt like it was pretty organic."
"If it seems like it's not too harsh, you hope it's right," added Fey, 43. "But you don't know until it comes out of your mouth. Last year, we tried to err on the side of hardly saying anything and just going backstage. That was our strategy; don't be out there."
Poehler, 42, also admitted that she hasn't seen all the nominated movies, though she said that she is game to come out wearing an "August: Osage County" sweatshirt.
"Right now, I'm rooting for 'Avatar,'" she joked. "I know it's crazy, but I think 'Avatar' could really pull it out this year. So I'm putting my money on 'Avatar.'"
Meanwhile, Fey, who suggested viewers do five push-ups when the camera pans to Tom Hanks ("You will be ripped by the end of the ceremony!") or drink anytime "you see a gown with sleeves," is keeping her expectations low, especially when it comes to ratings. When asked if this would be the highest Golden Globes show ever, she demurred.
"For like 30 seconds," she said. "And then the camera is going to pan in a little bit and it's going to be a zero."
