— -- An arrest has been made in the murder of Morgan Freeman's step-granddaughter, E'dena Hines, police said today.
Lamar Davenport has been charged with murder in the second degree, a representative for the New York City Police Department confirmed to ABC News. The Associated Press reported that Davenport was in a relationship with Hines.
Police responded Sunday morning to a 911 call of a woman, later determined to be Hines, who had been stabbed multiple times in upper Manhattan, according to the NYPD representative. The 33-year-old was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Hines, an aspiring actress, was the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife. The Oscar winner released a statement to the AP about his family's loss.
"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer," Freeman said.
