'Baby Ariel' Talks Musical.ly, the Explosively Popular App for Teens
The app’s users are called “musers,” and Ariel is one of the most popular.
— -- One of the most popular apps among teens is musical.ly, a social media platform that allows users to create and share 15-second music videos of their favorite songs on their smartphones. Users can edit the speed of the video, add filters and even play the video backwards before sharing it with others.
Musical.ly’s popularity is surging. It has landed No. 1 on the iTunes App Store in 19 countries.
“It just kind of organically grew from teens telling each other about it and it just kind of exploded,” Alex Heath, tech reporter at Business Insider, told ABC News.
Even celebrities like Ariana Grande, Keke Palmer, Vanessa Hudgens and Jason Derulo are getting in on the fun.
“As an artist, it’s amazing for me … when I find something that I enjoy that I feel is dope I want to share it, and musical.ly is one those things,” said Derulo. “It’s one of those things that I love personally. If you’re not on it now, you’re kinda late in the game.”
The app’s users are called “musers,” and muser Baby Ariel, whose real name is Ariel Martin, is one of the most popular. Martin, 15, racked up more than 7 million followers in less than a year.
“I love musical.ly. It’s a great app and it really helps me express my creativity,” she said on “Good Morning America” today.
Martin also revealed her secrets for making the perfect video on the app.
“Use good lighting,” she explained.
