'Bachelor in Paradise' Recap: Who Got Dumped on His Birthday and More
Someone quit, someone else returned and a sobbing Ashley I. called Kaitlyn.
— -- The controversial Joe Bailey-Samantha Steffen romance on "Bachelor in Paradise" took an interesting turn Sunday night.
Samantha dumped Joe -- on his birthday, no less. She claimed she was tired of the drama, but Joe is bent on revenge, so expect to see more between these two on the next episode.
Before the rose ceremony, Joe met with the others and admitted he'd reached out to Samantha before the season began. He denied that he deceived his other love interest, Juelia Kinney.
For her part, Samantha insisted she hadn't had extensive conversations with Joe before her arrival. But Tanner Tolbert continued to insist there was more to the story.
Having felt betrayed by Joe, Juelia approached host Chris Harrison with a special request. She asked him to bring back Mikey Tenerelli, who was eliminated after trying to protect her from Joe.
At the rose ceremony, JJ Lane handed out a rose to Ashley Salter, then quit. He explained that he'd broken up with someone before traveling to Mexico, but "every day that went by here, it reminded me that what I left is what I actually really want."
Juelia was one of three women who did not receive a rose, along with Megan Bell and Clare Crawley. Joe's reaction to the cameras, regarding Juelia’s dismissal: "Boom. Gone. Game over."
But on her way out, Juelia was surprised by Mikey, and they were both invited back onto the show. Joe said, unconvincingly, "I think Juelia being back here is great."
Nick Peterson, from Ashley Hebert’s "Bachelorette" season, showed up to paradise, revealing that he'd been in touch with Samantha before the show, too. But he was surprised upon his arrival to learn that she was involved with Joe. After she rejected his invitation for a date, he turned to Ashley S., and they hit it off at a spa, fueled by alcohol.
Tanner and Jade Roper headed to Tequila, Mexico, on a date, and were given a key to a place where they could spend more alone time. Tanner confessed to Jade that he was "all in" on their relationship.
Conversely, Jared Haibon, who at one point said he isn't over recent "Bachelorette" Kaitlyn Bristowe, told Ashley Iaconetti that their chemistry wasn't what he was looking for. A heartbroken Ashley cried on the phone to Kaitlyn afterward.
"Bachelor in Paradise" continues Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
