— -- Country music superstar Carrie Underwood had to act fast after she says her dogs locked themselves inside her car Saturday, along with her 4-month-old son.

Underwood described the scary incident in a series of tweets Saturday, explaining that her brother-in-law broke the car window to reach the dogs and Underwood’s son, Isaiah.

Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott was among those who tweeted her support to Underwood, 32 and a first-time mom, writing, “@carrieunderwood Oh. My. Word. I know your heart stopped!! Glad all your babies are okay!!!”

Safety and self-defense expert Jarret Arthur says that the first thing to do in a case like Underwood’s is to stay calm and call 911.

“They have different tools that they can use so they can actually unlock your car,” Arthur told ABC News.

Arthur also suggests a tool called a life-hammer, a $20 tool that can make a big difference.

“You can use these to break the window … you just tap the window with it and it just shatters the window and you can pull it out or push it in and unlock the car,” Arthur said while demonstrating the tool.

Arthur also recommends investing in a carabiner keychain to avoid the potential of getting locked out entirely.

“The best use for one of these clips is to keep it on your person,” she said.
