Christina Applegate: Why She Wasn't Interested in 'Legally Blonde'
The script came her way and she passed.
— -- Though Christina Applegate clarified on Wednesday that she was never offered the role of Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde," the actress did admit the script came her way and she wasn't interested.
Applegate told Entertainment Tonight that she was sent the script "right after I had just finished, 'Married [...with Children],' and it was a blonde who in that first script didn't win it but ends up going to Yale, or Harvard, I don't remember," Applegate revealed. "I got scared of kind of repeating myself."
Applegate had just played a similar role with Kelly Bundy on "Married." and "Legally Blonde" eventually cast Reese Witherspoon in the 2001 hit.
"What a stupid move that was, right?" Applegate added.
The "Vacation" star is happy for Witherspoon that she garnered such success as Woods in the "Blonde" series.
"Reese deserved that. She did a much better job than I ever could, and so that's her life," she continued.
After the ET article went live, Applegate tweeted, "To clarify I did not pass on that movie. The script came my way. It was never offered to me. Gotta clear that up."
