CMA Awards 2014: Jimmy Kimmel Embraces Holograms for Country Music Awards
The special production was in honor of the 48th annual CMA Awards.
— -- Late night talk show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel took his routine to a whole other level on Wednesday night when he appeared in holographic form in Nashville while simultaneously hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” from Hollywood.
"I'm either a hologram or I died and I'm haunting this theater," Kimmel joked during the show.
The special production - the first in television history - was in honor of the 48th annual CMA Awards, which aired Wednesday on ABC prior to Kimmel’s show.
Using technology from Hologram USA, Kimmel’s monologue was beamed to the Nashville stage.
His first guest, “Modern Family” star Julie Bowen, was in-studio in Hollywood. Kimmel's second guest - CMA "Song of the Year" winner Kacey Musgraves - appeared live on the show as a hologram from Nashville.
Kimmel’s show also featured a musical performance from Florida Georgia Line from Nashville. That performance was shown in hologram form to Kimmel’s outdoor stage to his studio audience in Hollywood.
"It was very cool," Kimmel told ABC News about the experience.
"If Ryan Seacrest finds out about this hologram thing he's going to host every show," he joked. "I mean, this could be dangerous."
