'Dancing With the Stars' 2016: Wanya Morris Talks Weight Loss, Previews 'Most Memorable Year' Routine
The Boyz II Men singer reveals why 1996 was his most memorable year.
— -- Wanya Morris, the singer in the blockbusters '90s R&B band Boyz II Men, is busting out impressive moves on the dance floor on "Dancing With the Stars."
With pro partner Lindsay Arnold, whom he calls his "Z-Pak" (after the popular antibiotic) because she makes him better on the dance floor, the 42-year-old "Motownphilly" singer has set the bar for the 11 other stars who are battling it out for the mirror ball trophy on season 22. His performances so far have earned him the top scores and made him the frontrunner.
Morris told "GMA" that he's feeling some pressure, but noted: "It feels really good."
The other members of Boyz II Men are "loving it," he said.
Morris gamely dons the colorful outfits provided for him, noting that he'll wear "whatever they tell me to wear ... as long as it fits and [doesn't show] my fat muscles, you know?"
Pinching his waist, Morris added: "They’re going away. They’re definitely going away."
In fact, Morris said he has already lost 15 pounds.
"I'm like ‘Wanya? Where are you?'" Arnold said, jokingly.
He added: "I mean, seriously. I feel good. I feel good."
Morris remembered when good friend Joey Fatone of the band 'NSYNC competed on the program.
"When I saw him, I was like, 'Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely ... I could do this. I could do it,'" he said. "I was a big guy, you know what I mean. And I remember Joey being a big guy. And he lost so much weight. And he looked great."
Season four finalist Fatone says he’s flattered to have been Morris’ inspiration to join the show.
“It’s exciting to see him because believe it or not, every season I know at least one person in the actual cast,” he said on “Good Morning America” today. “It’s great with Wanya because just like with ‘NSYNC, nobody really sees your personality. They see you as a group. So with the three of them in Boys II Men, you never see this side of Wanya.”
Morris has a very busy schedule. He and Arnold train every day. In addition, Boyz II Men has a weekend residency in Las Vegas and is touring the country -- all while Morris is competing on "Dancing."
For his performance tonight during the show that will highlight each competitor's most memorable year, Morris will perform a waltz to the "Star-Spangled Banner." It will recall 1996, when Boyz II Men performed the national anthem at the closing ceremonies of the Olympics in Atlanta.
"It was a feat that four black guys from Philadelphia would never have been able to forecast in a million years," he said.
He knows he'll have to pay attention to his hands in particular during tonight's performance.
“With waltz, it's more, you know, I have to watch my hands ... A lot of things are different,” he said.
The singer is competing against "Facts of Life" and "Real Housewives" star Kim Fields, Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers' Antonio Brown, actress Mischa Barton, actor/model Nyle DiMarco, Donald Trump's ex-wife Maria Maples, football star Doug Flutie,"Good Morning America" meteorologist Ginger Zee, "Full House" star Jodie Sweetin and mixed martial artist Paige VanZant.
Journalist Geraldo Rivera was the first competitor eliminated this season.
