Dos Equis Unveils New 'Most Interesting Man in the World'
The new Dos Equis spokesman is 41 years old.
— -- As in "Highlander," there can be only one, and such is the case with Dos Equis' "Most Interesting Man in the World" character.
The company has teased the identity of the replacement for Jonathan Goldsmith, the suave, silver-haired pitchman whose character helped virtually triple the beer's sales since his introduction nearly nine years ago.
ABC News has confirmed that Dos Equis' latest "Most Interesting Man" is French actor Augustin Legrand.
He, too, is bearded, but at 41 years old, he's a more youthful vision of the character originated by now 77-year-old Goldsmith.
A company rep explains the "refreshed" campaign, "features a more active and adventurous character" -- though like his predecessor, he's apparently impossibly cool-headed, skilled at just about everything, and can speak Spanish.
In the tease, Legrand's "Most Interesting Man" utters his first and only line to date in Spanish, befitting the cerveza, which is actually owned by German beer giant Heineken.
He'll be seen in his first full spot in October.
