— -- One of Ed Sheeran's favorite TV shows is “Game of Thrones” and the British rocker was able to score a cameo last season.

“I say literally two lines in it, and then just kind of hang in the background, so I wouldn’t necessarily call it acting,” the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter said on “GMA” today.

But he did reveal how he landed the brief role in the season seven premiere, crediting Snow Patrol lead singer, Gary Lightbody, for putting him in touch with the cast and crew. Lightbody has also made an appearance on the hit HBO show.

“It’s filmed in Northern Ireland, and I toured with a band from Northern Ireland called Snow Patrol, and Gary, the lead singer, knew someone in ‘Game of Thrones,’” Sheeran explained. “This was back in 2012, and he was like, ‘I’ll try and get you on.’”

Now, five years later, the connection finally worked out.

Sheeran portrayed a Lannister soldier who sang by the campfire and grabbed the attention of Maisie Williams' Arya Stark.

He crooned lyrics that George R.R. Martin wrote in his novels. In the book series, the song emerges in a plotline involving Tyrion Lannister.

Sheeran also performed his new single "Perfect" off his latest album "Divide" as well as "Shape of You."
