Emilia Clarke Fires Back at 'Game of Thrones' Critics
She says in no way is the show sexist.

"Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke has fired back at critics who call the show sexist. In fact, the "Mother of Dragons" argued that the show depicts strong women in many stages of life.
"'Thrones' sexism, dammit!" she joked to Entertainment Weekly about her role in season 6, where her character is "feeling like a slave" after the events of late last season.
She added about the critics, "There’s so much controversy. Yet that’s what’s beautiful about 'Game of Thrones' -- it’s depiction of women in so many different stages of development. There are women depicted as sexual tools, women who have zero rights, women who are queens but only to a man, and then there are women who are literally unstoppable and as powerful as you can possibly imagine."
Clarke said it hurts the actress to hear people badmouthing the show that put her on the map.
"It pains me to hear people taking 'Thrones' out of context with anti-feminist spin –- because you can’t do that about this show. It shows the range that happens to women, and ultimately shows women are not only equal, but have a lot of strength," she added.
She also said it's unfair that women who take their clothes off on the show are singled out.
"How many times has [Daario actor Michiel Huisman] been asked about the fact he’s taken his clothes off a bunch? Is that even a discussion? No," she said.
"Thrones" returns April 24 on HBO.
