— -- Now that news of Fergie's split from husband Josh Duhamel is no longer a secret, the singer said she's happy she doesn't have to pretend anymore.

The singer told People magazine that it's been difficult trying to promote her new album, "Double Dutchess," when interviewers kept asking her about her marriage.

"Honestly, it was just getting a little weird for us with all the romantic questions,” she explained. "We’re great friends, we love each other so much, and it just got to the point where it was getting a little weird ... there’s no perfect time so we just decided to [announce it]."

Fergie, 42, and Duhamel, 44, revealed last week that they were ending their eight-year marriage. The two share a son, Axl, 4.

“With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year,” they said in a statement. “To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”
