After "Grey's Anatomy" killed off Patrick Dempsey's character, Dr. Derek Shepherd, a.k.a. McDreamy, Thursday night, the 49-year-old actor spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what next for him.
First, Dempsey has two projects he's working on, "The Limit" and "Fodors," along with taking the "rest of the year off to develop."
He said, "I would like to be a producer. I would commit to a show that is 10 to 12 episodes. But 24 [episodes] again, I don’t know if I would do that. It’s a very hard life. It’s financially rewarding but there comes a point where how much is enough, really?”
Then, there's home life, where Dempsey is focusing on "being a father to my children," who include a daughter, Talula, and twin sons, Sullivan and Darby.
Finally, he has his racing. In fact, he was training overseas when the shocking episode aired Thursday night.
Dempsey added that he knew his fate on "Grey's" probably back in February or March.
When it comes to the end of an era, he said, "Shepherd is a beloved character. People don’t want to lose him. ... But it goes on, and it will evolve."
