— -- Singer Gwen Stefani received the Hero Award at the 2016 Radio Disney Music Awards, which honors the most popular acts in teen pop music.
During her acceptance speech this weekend at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, the pop icon opened up about her emotional year in the spotlight.
“It wasn’t until my life got real crazy that I was able to kind of find this record inside me,” she said.
Stefani underwent a painful split from her rocker husband Gavin Rossdale last year, and she has said those experiences inspired her new hit album, “This Is What the Truth Feels Like."
Her boyfriend, country music superstar Blake Shelton, showed his support for her by leading a standing ovation as she accepted her award from fellow musician Pharrell. The three are co-hosts on the singing competition “The Voice.”
“I am so honored to be here, I am so honored to be making music. I am so blessed to be making music that I can share with you and that I can receive your love back,” Stefani said.
The Saturday show was televised Sunday night on Disney Channel, and it featured performances from Ariana Grande, DNCE, Flo Rida, Hailee Steinfeld, Daya and Kelsea Ballerini, among others.
Winners from the event include Fifth Harmony for Best Group, Ed Sheeran for Best Male Artist and Selena Gomez for Best Female Artist. Click HERE for the full list of winners.
