Inside Lupita Nyong'o's Trip to Her Homeland Kenya

— -- Since being catapulted to international fame as an Oscar winner, one of the faces of Lancome and People's Most Beautiful Woman, Lupita Nyong'o has scarcely had time to travel back to her homeland of Kenya.

But from the images of the actress's trip there last week, it appeared to be quite the homecoming for Nyong'o, 32.

The "12 Years a Slave" star basked in the sun.

She visited her alma maters, where she participated in a mentorship session with young Kenyan students and artists while discussing her own acting career.

And she returned to her grandmother's house.

In part, Nyong'o traveled to the country where she was raised -- she was born in Mexico City while her father, Kenyan politician Peter Anyang' Nyong'o, was teaching at a university there -- to lend her voice to WildAid, a conservancy organization whose mission is to end the sale of illegal wildlife artifacts, such as elephant tusks and rhino horn.

"Elephants can hear more than 5km away. So my whisper must be like a shout at this distance...?" she wrote on Instagram.

"That was grand! Thank you to all who came, for the warm welcome home and for the love shown to the #ivoryfree cause," she wrote on Instagram following a fundraising dinner.

She also took some time off for a little "glamping," traveling on safari with her glam squad and posting behind-the-scenes pics of what will likely end up a Lancome campaign.

While on safari, she wished her adopted homeland, America, a Happy Fourth of July with Mount Kilimanjaro barely visible behind her.
