Jared Leto Cuts His Hair -- and Fans React
Social media erupted with news that Leto cut his long locks and beard.
— -- He gave us the man bun and the man braid, and now Jared Leto has left us broken-hearted.
The Oscar-winning actor chopped off his long locks -- and shaved his beard -- for his role as the Joker in the upcoming film, "Suicide Squad."
The 43-year-old Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman teased his new look on Instagram Monday, posting a photo of someone holding a pair of scissors to his ponytail.
"I miss my beard already," he wrote.
Later, he shared a peek at his new slicked hairdo and clean-shaven face, writing, "...#gone!"
Leto first debuted his long hair in 2012. His shiny, shoulder-length locks, whether styled with ombre highlights, put up into a dazzling up-do or simply worn long, landed him on many a best-hair list over the years.
But the actor is no stranger to transformations, especially when it comes to a role, and has worn his hair both long and short throughout his career.
Still, his new look caught some people by surprise and, not surprisingly, has garnered thousands of comments from social and online media.
Many were in mourning:
Others lamented the end of an era:
The Guardian even wrote an obituary to his locks.
Others took a more sensible tack.
