April 10, 2014 -- Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard are taking the physical part of their relationship slowly.

They'll share their first kiss at their wedding this summer, the newly engaged couple told ABC.

"We're just really trying to keep our relationship focused not on the physical but really just more on communication and continuing to learn more about each other," Duggar, 22, said. "We're saving our first kiss and things beyond that for our wedding."

Duggar’s parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, also stars on the TLC reality-TV series "19 Kids & Counting," said that they're supportive of their daughter's choices, and confirmed that they gave Derick permission to hold their daughter's hand after they were engaged. Jim Bob also said that as is the case with Jill's younger sister, Jessa, who is courting with Ben Seewald, Jill and Derick were engaging in quick side hugs before the proposal.

"Both of the girls realize that they've got a lot of little brothers and sisters coming after them," he said. "I don't think each relationship is going to be the same ... [but] both couples have decided to have high standards in order to keep themselves pure and also set an example for their younger siblings."

Jim Bob, 48, said that while he and his wife were virgins at their wedding, "we went farther than we should have" and "we made some mistakes." They did not want their daughters to do the same, and asked them to get to know their future spouses in group settings before anything physical happened. Ultimately, their children agreed with them.

How the Duggars Celebrate Valentine's Day

"What's so neat is Jessa and Ben and Jill and Derick have set their own courtship standards and now engagement standards, and they've said they want to bring them out in the open and be accountable," Michelle said. "I think it's good for couples out there, young, old, whatever, you can set those standards and really focus on getting to know each other and wait for the physical aspect."

Added Jim Bob: "This isn't a new concept. This is the way that everybody used to do it 50 years ago, and we're reverting back to how they used to do with more family interaction, less teen pregnancy and when the divorce rate was a lot lower.

“Michelle and I are really grateful that they have chosen to set high standards."
