Get Your First Look at Jon Bernthal's Punisher in 'Daredevil'
And get details about the new season!
— -- Some of the first clear images from "Daredevil" season 2 are starting to surface and one shows Jon Bernthal's Punisher having captured the Man Without Fear.
In this first clear picture of the new vigilante, shared by Entertainment Weekly, the Punisher is holding a gun and a wrench.
EW also visited the set, spoke to the heads of the show and watched the first two episodes of the new season, adding that the first episode introduces the new anti-hero almost immediately.
Showrunner Doug Petrie explained, "We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f------- could.”
Unlike Daredevil, played in the show by Charlie Cox, Frank Castle (the Punisher's alias) is unique in that he kills villains using guns and other weapons. His tragic past is usually the reason for his methods. In the 2004 movie starring Thomas Jane, it was the murder of his wife and children that compelled him to seek revenge. No information on the baggage Bernthal's version will bring to the show, but he will have a Special Forces military past.
"Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves," Petrie added. "Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky...we’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think."
The new season will also feature Elektra, played by Elodie Yung. Elektra is historically a love interest for Daredevil, but it's not an easy road for the two.
"She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that," Petrie said.
"Daredevil" season 2 hits Netflix in 2016.
