Jason Derulo Sets the Record Straight About Split from Jordin Sparks
"Cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our breakup," he said.
— -- Jason Derulo wants to set the record straight about his split from Jordin Sparks.
The "Wiggle" singer, who began dating the "American Idol" winner three years ago, told ABC News that the two remain close.
"Though I think it is a private matter and intended to keep my break-up Jordin personal, due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment," Derulo told ABC News. "I spent three great years with Jordin and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met. But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part. Infidelity, cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our break-up, and I hope that people respect our privacy as we move forward with our lives."
"Everything is cool," Derulo told KDWB in Minneapolis. "It's not a bad situation. It's not one of those kind of things."
Derulo and Sparks, 24, were first linked in late 2011, but lately, things seemed to be more serious than ever. Just a few weeks ago, Derulo, 25, told "Nightline" that he wrote the song "Marry Me" to assure his girlfriend that a proposal was coming.

"[She's] just the sweetest, always thinking about others before she thinks about herself. Super charitable," he gushed. "We're such opposites, like, just polar, and I think that's what works."
Most recently, Sparks posted a photo of the two after a workout Sept. 8.
"You know what? @jasonderulo is the best workout buddy! Thanks for encouraging me & pushing me to go harder!! BOOM!" she wrote.
A rep for Sparks had no comment.
