Kaley Cuoco's Ex Ryan Sweeting 'Not Likely' to Get Spousal Support, Expert Says
The "Big Bang Theory" actress is said to be worth $45 million.
— -- Just one month after Kaley Cuoco announced her split from husband Ryan Sweeting, the couple’s divorce appears to be getting complicated.
Court documents obtained by ABC News show that Sweeting, a professional tennis player, is seeking spousal support from the “Big Bang Theory” star.
Cuoco, 29, is said to be the highest-paid actress currently on television, worth a reported $45 million. Her 28-year-old ex has a net worth reportedly around $2 million.
Sweeting, who was married to Cuoco for 21 months, has also asked the court to deny any request from Cuoco for spousal support, People magazine’s Patrick Gomez told ABC News.
The actress and the tennis player, who have a prenuptial agreement, married on New Year's Eve in 2013, several months after they started dating, in a fairy-tale wedding that featured Cuoco in a pink wedding gown.
The two battled rumors that their marriage was in trouble earlier this year before announcing their split in September, with a rep for Cuoco saying they had “mutually decided to end their marriage.”
Attorney Marilyn Chinitz, a partner at the law firm Blank Rome who is not involved in the couple’s divorce, predicts that Sweeting’s request will not stand.
“He himself is a wealthy man and the court is not likely to award support,” Chinitz told ABC News. “They’re more likely to enforce the terms of the prenuptial agreement.”
Sweeting follows in the footsteps of former “Beverly Hills 90210" star Brian Austin Green in asking for spousal support from a high-profile celebrity wife. Green filed for spousal support in September from actress Megan Fox, his wife of five years with whom he shares two children.
“There is a definite trend that we are seeing as practitioners,” Chinitz said. “There are more men seeking support from their wives than we've ever seen ... and that's primarily because women are making more money now.”
